HYDERABAD – Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Friday reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.03 billion for the December quarter, up nearly 16% on year, led by growth in all regions that the company operates in. The net profit for the quarter included a one-time cost of INR 1.84 billion. The one-time cost was related to implementation of labor codes, litigation cost in a US case, and tax dispute settlements.
Brokerage ICICI Securities had projected Glenmark Pharma December quarter net profit at INR 5.1 billion and Motilal Oswal expected it INR 5.3 billion.
The company's revenue from operations for the quarter rose 15% on year to INR 39.01 billion, a bit above the analysts' estimates of INR 37.14 billion.
Glenmark Pharma reported a 22.1% on-year growth in its India formulations revenue to nearly INR 13 billion for the quarter led by new launches and ramp-up in some of the existing products. The growth was led by Indian Pharmaceutical Market, as the company recorded growth in all of its key therapies, Glenmark Pharma said.
North America revenue grew 24.2% on year to INR 9.71 billion. The North America sales growth included out-licensing income from ISB 2001, the company said in a press release. Glenmark Pharma's arm out licensed its multiple myeloma drug to the US-based AbbVie and part of the deal proceeds reflected in December quarter. The core business in North America grew 4.1%, the company said. In emerging markets, the company revenue rose 8.4% on year to INR 8.12 billion. Europe revenue grew 9.1% on year to INR 7.96 billion.
"We delivered strong double-digit revenue growth in the third quarter, reflecting disciplined execution across markets and keeping us on track to deliver our near-term guidance," the company said quoting Glenn Saldanha, the chairman and managing director, in a press release.
"India continued to outperform in our core therapies. In North America, we advanced our portfolio through new launches, pipeline progression, and the positive regulatory outcome at Monroe. Europe and Emerging markets demonstrated improved momentum, supported by our respiratory franchise and expanding global brands," Glenmark Pharma said.
Its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation rose 45% on year to INR 8.70 billion. The EBITDA margin for the quarter was at 22.3%.
The company's total expenses for the quarter rose nearly 9% on year to INR 32.3 billion. The raw material costs rose nearly 4% on year to INR 7.75 billion. Employee benefit expenses for the quarter rose 6.7% on year to INR 8.4 billion.
For Apr-Dec, Glenmark Pharma reported a consolidated net profit of INR 10.60 billion on a revenue of INR 132.12 billion. On Friday, shares of Glenmark Pharma ended at INR 2,015.90 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.5% from their previous close. End
