MUMBAI – Jindal Stainless Ltd. reported a modest growth on a year-on-year basis in its top line and bottom line for the December quarter, while missing analysts estimates by a significant margin. Jindal Stainless registered on-year growth backed by an increase in its domestic sales but faced headwinds in terms of exports as global sentiment remained subdued due to elevated uncertainties and protectionist measures by key western markets, particularly the US and the European Union.

The company's net profit came in at INR 6.66 billion, up nearly 8% on year and a rise of over 3% as compared to the previous quarter. Analysts had expected the company's bottom line at INR 8.03 billion. The company reported a nearly 6% on year rise but a fall of over 2% on a quarter-on-quarter basis in its net revenue for the reporting quarter at INR 106.32 billion. This was lower than the street's projection of INR 110.12 billion.

The company's revenue growth on a year-on-year basis was the slowest in five quarters, whereas the year-on-year bottom line growth was the slowest in four quarters.

For the nine months ended December, Jindal Stainless posted a net profit of INR 19.51 billion as compared to INR 17.86 billion in the year-ago period. The company's net revenue for Apr-Dec came in at INR 318.54 billion as against INR 293.96 billion a year ago.

The board of directors approved payment of interim dividend of INR 1 per equity share. The record date for determining the entitlement of members for the purpose of payment has been set as Jan. 29 and the dividend will be paid on or before Feb. 19.

The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation rose 10% on year to INR 11.03 billion. Its sales volume during the quarter was at 649,857 tonnes, up 10.6% on year.

During the reporting quarter, the company said it maintained steady momentum supported by continued demand from automotive, ornamental pipes and tubes, railways and metro, and white goods, amid factors including a growing focus on infrastructure expansion, efficient vertical transportation, and strengthened transit networks.

Wednesday, shares of the company ended 1.3% lower at INR 749.95 on the National Stock Exchange. The company posted its December quarter earnings post market hours.  End
