JSW Energy arm, West Bengal in power purchase pact for 1,600 MW thermal unit

AHMEDABAD--JSW Energy Ltd. Tuesday said that its wholly owned subsidiary JSW Thermal Energy Two Ltd. has signed a power purchase agreement with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd., or WBSEDCL, for 1,600 megawatts thermal power plants, the company said in its filing with stock exchanges Tuesday.
As per the filing, the greenfield plant--2X800 MW super/ultra-super critical thermal power plant -- is to be commissioned in Salboni, West Bengal, within six years. It was awarded under a competitive bidding process and will utilise domestic linkage coal allocated to the state. "...the signing of our second 1,600 MW PPA with WBSEDCL for a thermal power plant at Salboni, increasing our total capacity at the site to 3,200 MW," Sharad Mahendra, joint managing director and chief executive officer, JSW Energy, said in a note attached with the filing.
The company also claimed that its total thermal capacity is expected to increase to 10.66 gigawatts after signing of this PPA and an option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi. For the September quarter, JSW Energy reported a consolidated net profit of INR 7.05 billion on a revenue of INR 51.77 billion. Tuesday, shares of the company closed 1.5% lower at INR 479.10 on the National Stock Exchange. End
