India power generation up 4.3% at 126.29 bln kWh in December

KOLKATA – The electricity generation of India in December rose 4.3% year-on-year and 13.0% on month to 126.29 billion kWh, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In December 2024, total power generation from all the sources stood at 121.07 billion kWh, and in November, it was at 111.76 billion kWh.

 

Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.

 

Thermal power generation rose by 4.73% year on year at 113.29 billion kWh but nuclear power generation fell 17.81% on year at 4.21 billion kWh.

 

Hydropower generation increased 12.7% to 8.74 billion kWh.

 

For Apr-Dec, total electricity produced was 1,153.80 billion kWh, down 3.04% year on year. India has set a total electricity generation target of 1.73 trillion kWh for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar).
