NEW DELHI – Ashok Leyland Ltd. Thursday said sales of its commercial vehicles grew 27% on year to 21,533 units in December, the highest units despatched since March. The company registered robust sales across categories, including medium-heavy buses, trucks, and light commercial vehicles. Sales of medium-heavy commercial vehicles grew 29% on year to 14,830 units in December. 

 

Ashok Leyland sold 19,855 commercial vehicles to local dealerships in December, up 26% on year. In India, the company sold 11,387 medium-heavy duty trucks, up 27% on year and 2,166 medium-heavy duty buses, up 44% on year. Sales of its light commercial vehicles in India grew 21% on year to 6,302 units in December.

 

Including exports, sales of medium-heavy duty trucks grew 26% on year to 11,596 units, and medium-heavy duty buses grew 45% on year to 3,234 units. Sales of light commercial vehicles in India and overseas grew 22% on year to 6,703 units.

 

In Apr-Dec, Ashok Leyland sold 150,979 commercial vehicles in India and abroad, up 11% on year. This includes sales of 96,165 medium-heavy commercial vehicles, up 12% on year and 54,814 light commercial vehicles, up 10% on year. 

 

In India, the company sold 138,219 commercial vehicles in Apr-Dec, up 10% on year. Medium-heavy commercial vehicle despatches grew 9% on year to 85,698 units while that of light commercial vehicles grew 11% on year to 52,521 units.

 

For the September quarter, Ashok Leyland had reported a net profit of INR 7.71 billion on revenue of INR 95.88 billion. At 1342 IST, shares of the company traded 3.1% higher on the National Stock Exchange at INR 184.70.  End
