MUMBAI – Natural gas inventories in the US fell by 38 billion cubic feet in the week ended Dec. 26, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. The inventory was nearly 2% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.
The total working gas in underground storage was 3.38 trillion cubic feet as of Dec. 26. The stocks were 58 billion cubic feet above the five-year average of 3.32 trillion cubic feet, according to the report.
Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. The East, Midwest, and Mountain saw a fall in inventories. South central, which includes salt and non-salt regions, saw a rise in inventories as the salt region's build-in stocks more than offset the decline in the non-salt region.
On Wednesday, the most active February contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed at $3.686 per million British thermal units, down 0.1% from the previous close. The prices of natural gas on the NYMEX on Thursday were unavailable as the exchange was shut on account of New Year's Day. Trading will resume on Friday. End
