--Coal India appoints CMD B Sairam as CEO 

 

KOLKATA – Coal India Ltd. said its board in a meeting Friday has inter-alia appointed the company's Chairman and Managing Director B. Sairam as its chief executive officer. He has been appointed as the CEO retrospectively from Dec. 15 and will continue to hold this post till superannuation, Coal India said in a filing with exchanges. Incidentally, Sairam was appointed as the company's chairman and managing director on Dec. 15 as well. 

 

Prior to his appointment at Coal India, Sairam was the chairman and managing director at Northern Coalfields Ltd., a Coal India subsidiary. A graduate of mining engineering from National Institute of Technology at Raipur, Sairam has over 30 years experience in the coal sector across various domains like mine operations, project planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. He also pursued Masters of Business Administration in energy management from NTPC School of Business Delhi, Coal India said in the filing. 

 

Before taking charge of Northern Coalfields as its top official, Sairam was the technical director at Ranchi-based Central Coalfields Ltd., another Coal India subsidiary, where he played pivotal roles in development of coal logistics, first mile connectivity projects, forest and environment clearances, and in carrying out greenfield and brownfield mines projects. 

 

For the September quarter, Coal India had reported a decline of over 31% on year in its consolidated net profit to INR 43.5 billion. The company's consolidated revenue had fallen 3.2% on year to INR 301.9 billion. At 1414 IST, shares of Coal India traded 0.24% higher at INR 403.30 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
