NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose to a four-week high of $688.95 billion in the week ended Dec. 12, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Friday. The reserves were up $1.69 billion from a week ago.
Foreign currency assets rose for the first time in four weeks to $557.79 billion as of Dec. 12, up $906 million on week. The value of the central bank's gold holdings increased for the third consecutive week to an eight-week high of $107.74 billion in the reporting week.
Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the central bank. End
