India receives 55% below normal rainfall at 1.7 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 1.7 millimetres rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 55% below the normal of 3.7 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 10, the country received 132.6 millimetres of rainfall, 20% above the normal of 110.2 millimetres, the data showed.
All four homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal rainfall during the week, the data showed. East and northeast India, northwest India, and central India received no rainfall at all, which is 100?low the normal levels of 2.6 millimetres, 2.3 millimetres, and 1.6 millimetres, respectively for this period. In south peninsular India, rainfall was 20% below normal at 8.5 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, 27 did not receive any rainfall. Three sub-divisions received "large excess" rainfall and one of the subdivisions received "excess" showers. Rainfall was "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in two. End
