--SpiceJet to start up to 100 additional daily flights during winter schedule

MUMBAI – SpiceJet plans to start 100 additional domestic flights daily during the winter schedule with a focus on "high-demand" routes, the company said in statement Tuesday. This comes after the government ordered IndiGo to cut 10% of its flights due to the unprecedented cancellations reported by the airline last week.

SpiceJet clarified that the plans to run additional flights were yet to be approved by the regulator. With IndiGo being asked to cut flights, the government might look to offer freed-up slots to other airlines, The Indian Express reported, quoting sources.

Amid this, SpiceJet is looking to ramp up operations and "ensure adequate capacity in India's aviation market". "Our focus in the current schedule period is to add several more aircraft, maximise aircraft utilisation and strengthen connectivity through better planning." The winter schedule by the DGCA lays out flight details between Oct. 26 and Mar. 28.

The company said it has inducted 17 aircraft into active operations over the past two months. "This enhanced fleet availability gives us the operational flexibility to deploy incremental capacity on high-demand routes and improve overall network resilience."

For the quarter ended September, SpiceJet reported a consolidated net loss of INR 6.21 billion on revenue of INR 7.92 billion. At 1122 IST, shares of the company were up 1% to INR 34.68 on BSE.  End
