--Aviation minister: Ordered curtailment of 10% of IndiGo's flights
--InterGlobe Aviation: Plan to fly nearly 1,900 flights Wednesday

NEW DELHI – The Ministry of Civil Aviation Tuesday asked InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.-run budget carrier IndiGo to curtail 10% of its overall routes to help the company stabilise its operations and reduce the horde of cancellations seen in recent days. "While abiding with it, IndiGo will continue to cover all its destinations as before," Union Minister of Civil Aviation R. M. N. Kinjarapu said in a post on social media platform X Tuesday.

"While the enquiry and necessary actions are underway, another meeting with Indigo's top management was held to review the stabilization measures. Today again, @IndiGo6E CEO (chief executive officer) Pieter Elbers was summoned to the Ministry to provide an update," the minister said in the post.

InterGlobe Aviation said Tuesday its crisis-struck budget airline IndiGo has reinstated operations across its network and that its on-time performance is also back to normal levels. "Today (Tuesday), we are operating more than 1,800 flights, connecting all 138 stations in our network, and plan to fly nearly 1,900 flights tomorrow. We have optimised our operations," the company said in a press statement.

IndiGo, which commands nearly 60% market share in India's domestic aviation space, has been at the centre of a storm in recent days. The airline received much flak from the government and flyers for cancelling nearly a 100 flights per day since the first week of December.

"The restoration of IndiGo's network and flights was being done on a ‘war footing'," IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said in a statement earlier in the day. "On December 5th we could only fly 700 flights, thereafter, gradually yet steadily improving to 1,500 on 6th, 1,650 on 7th, 1,800 yesterday on 8th… and over 1,800 today," he said.

"Earlier we had indicated to normalize between 10th and 15th December. I can confirm that today as from December 9th, our operations are fully stabilized which means the flights reflecting on our website are scheduled to operate with an adjusted network," Elbers said.

Interglobe Aviation's stock had fallen almost 17% in the past seven sessions, thanks to the operational disruptions. On Tuesday, its shares closed up nearly 1% higher at INR 4,967.50 on the National Stock Exchange. For the September quarter, the company had reported a net loss of INR 26.14 billion on a revenue of INR 185.55 billion.   End
