MUMBAI – Total retail sales of electric passenger vehicles in November rose 61.9% on year to 14,850 units as Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. further cemented its top spot, data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association showed Tuesday. Relative newcomers to the electric passenger vehicles space – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Hyundai Motor India Ltd. – registered robust year-on-year growth in car sales as well. However, overall car sales moderated month-on-month, mainly due to the tapering of festive demand seen in October.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles sold 6,153 electric cars in November, up over 38% on year but down 15% on month. The electric passenger vehicle sales of Mahindra & Mahindra rose five-fold on year to 2,966 units, but fell 24% on month. Creta maker Hyundai Motor reported sales of 372 electric vehicle units in November, sharply higher than 21 sold in the same month last year.
The retail sales of electric two-wheelers fell nearly 3% on year and nearly 19% on month to 116,982 units, the data showed. Among the listed companies in the data, barring Baja Auto Ltd., all the other companies reported an on-year double-digit sales growth.
Ola Electric continued to lose ground as sales of its electric two-wheelers tumbled 71% on year and 48% on month to 8,402 units in November.
Retail sales of Bajaj Auto's Chetak fell over 3% on year to 25,565 units. Ather Energy Ltd. posted healthy year-on-year growth of nearly 57% to 20,349 units. However, on a month-on-month basis, the retail sales of the Bengaluru-based two-wheeler company fell nearly 28%.
Hero MotoCorp Ltd.'s electric two-wheeler sales stood at 12,213 units, up 66% on year but down over 23% on month. TVS Motor Co. Ltd.'s electric two-wheeler sales grew 11% on year to 30,347 units. It was also nearly 3% higher than in October. End
