RBI revises norms on carrying Indian rupees to or from Nepal, Bhutan

NEW DELHI – The Reserve Bank of India has allowed any person, other than a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, to take or send any amount of Indian rupees to Nepal or Bhutan, in denominations up to INR 100. Similarly, any person, other than a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, can bring into the country any amount of Indian rupees from Nepal or Bhutan in denominations up to INR 100.
For notes of denominations of above INR 100, a person can take or bring up to INR 25,000 to and from Nepal and Bhutan, the central bank said in a notification.
Earlier, any person, including a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, travelling from India to Nepal or Bhutan could carry up to INR 25,000 in denominations of INR 200 and INR 500. End
