MUMBAI - There are different views about the trend of cement stocks next week, with some analysts expecting most stocks to fall while a few others expect investors to cover short positions. "Charts' structure amongst majority of cement stocks is either sideways or negative," Vipin Kumar, derivatives and technical analyst at Globe Capital Market, said.

In recent months, India's large-cap cement stocks have underperformed the Nifty 50 index, CNBC-TV18 reported, citing global brokerage JP Morgan. Cement stocks are likely to rise in the coming months if these companies attempt to raise prices by the end of December or by early January, the brokerage said. It also expects industry utilisation to fall over the next few months due to higher supply in the sector.

Cement companies are likely to see a stronger performance in the second half of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), aided by increased housing demand, infrastructure spending, and improved economic sentiment post goods and services tax cuts. The pan-India cement volume of major players is expected to grow in high single digits, supported by a favourable base and the shift in the festive season, JM Financial Institutional Securities said in its report.

"We expect industry demand to grow at 6–7%, underpinned by sustained government focus on infrastructure and housing, as well as gradually improving demand dynamics in both rural and urban markets," JM Financial said. Though the industry typically sees sequential improvement in profitability in the December quarter, the broking firm said recovery appears challenging this time, given weaker cement prices, rising input costs, rupee depreciation, and only gradual demand recovery.
