IMD sees moderate rainfall, snowfall over J&K, Ladakh till Monday

MUMBAI – Under the influence of a western disturbance at lower tropospheric levels over northern Punjab and its neighbourhood, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh till Monday, over Himachal Pradesh till Sunday, and over Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, the India Meteorological Department said.
Heavy rains are likely over parts of southern Tamil Nadu Friday, under the influence of a trough running from the southeast Arabian Sea to southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean across the Comorin area at lower tropospheric levels, the weather department said.
The weather bureau also forecasts thunderstorms accompanied with lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry till Saturday, and over Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Friday. Similar weather conditions with gusty wind speeds reaching 30-50 km per hour are likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during till Sunday, the weather department said.
A gradual rise of 2-3 degree Celsius in minimum temperature is likely in northwest India over the next three days and no significant change is expected thereafter. In Maharashtra, no significant change in minimum temperature is likely for the next four days and a fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely thereafter.
No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over Gujarat during the next seven days. Similar weather conditions are likely over central, eastern, and northeastern India, the weather department said.
Cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, northwest Jharkhand, and northern interior Odisha during the weekend and over Uttar Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan on Saturday, the weather department said. Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in the early hours in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the weekend, over Himachal Pradesh from Saturday to Monday, and over Odisha over the weekend, the department said.
