MUMBAI – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation Friday withdrew its order that allowed airlines to substitute leaves for crew members' weekly rest under the flight duty time limitation rules. After a conversation with airline operators and upon reviewing ongoing operational disruptions in flights, it withdrew the decision with immediate effect, according to a press release by the regulator.
This withdrawal comes after InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.-operated IndiGo cancelled hundreds of flights recently, unable to deal with a shortage of pilots following the implementation of the new norms.
The Airline Pilots' Association of India has objected to this move, NDTV Profit reported, citing a letter it has accessed from the organisation. The association has said that this is a selective and unsafe dispensation given to IndiGo. The DGCA, on Nov. 24, had said that no exemptions would be given to any airline for the flight duty time limitation norms, according to the report. End
