MUMBAI –  US natural gas inventories fell 12 billion cubic feet in the week ended Nov. 28, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration. However, the inventory was nearly 5.1% higher than the five-year average for this time of the year, the agency said in its weekly report.

The total working gas in underground storage was 3.92 trillion cubic feet as of Nov. 28, nearly 1% lower than a year ago. The stocks were 191 billion cubic feet higher than the five-year average of 3.7 trillion cubic feet, the report said.

Total working gas remained within the five-year historical range. The east, midwest, mountain, and Pacific saw a fall in their inventories, while the south central, which includes salt and non-salt regions, saw a rise. At 0859 IST, the most-active January contract of natural gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange was at $5.091 per million British thermal units, up nearly 1% from the previous close.  End
