MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry till Friday and over Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Rayalaseema Thursday. An upper air cyclonic circulation lying over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep in the lower tropospheric level is likely to bring rainfall to these areas, the department said.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also seen over a few places on coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, according to the weather department.

In terms of temperatures, no significant change in the minimum temperature is likely over many parts of northwest India for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, a gradual rise in temperature by 3–4 degrees Celsius is expected during the subsequent four days. Meanwhile, central, east, and north India are likely to see a gradual fall of 2–3 degrees Celsius in temperature and no significant change thereafter is likely, the weather department said.

No significant change in minimum temperature is expected for the next five days in Maharashtra but temperature is likely to fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius thereafter during the subsequent two days, the department said. Temperature in Gujarat is unlikely to change during the next seven days, the weather agency said.

Cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and east Rajasthan Friday, and over Jharkhand during the weekend. Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during the early hours in pockets of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from Friday to Tuesday, over Himachal Pradesh from Friday to Sunday, and over Odisha Friday and Saturday, the weather bureau said.  End
