India receives 21% below normal rainfall at 3.3 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 3.3 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 21% below the normal of 4.2 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 3, the country received 131.0 millimetres of rainfall, 23% above the normal of 106.5 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, three received below-normal rainfall while one recorded above-normal showers, according to the data. In south peninsular India, rainfall was 47% above normal at 16.7 millimetres. The presence of multiple weather systems, including the cyclonic storm Ditwah brought heavy to very heavy rainfall to the region during the week. East and northeast India received 97% below normal rainfall at 0.1 millimetres. Northwest India received 99% below normal rainfall and central India received 98% below normal rainfall millimetres, according to IMD.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 21 did not receive any rainfall. Two subdivisions received "large" excess" rainfall and one of the subdivisions received "excess" showers. Rainfall was "normal" in one, and "large deficient" in two. End
