NEW DELHI – The government has not proposed raising the foreign direct investment limit in public sector banks to 49% from the current 20%, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said Tuesday in the written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. The question features in Parliament after multiple media reports said that the government was considering raising the FDI limit in PSU banks.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary reiterated that the FDI limit in PSU banks was 20% and that in private sector banks was 74%. "In case of private sector banks, upto 49% of FDI is through the automatic route and beyond 49% and up to 74%, the government route is applicable," Chaudhary added. End
