Centre releases INR 568.26 billion to states as capex loans till Thursday

--CONTEXT: MoS Finance Chaudhary's response to question in Lok Sabha 

 

MUMBAI – The Centre has released INR 568.26 billion to states till Thursday in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) as part of the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure in the form of 50-year interest-free loans, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in response to a question in the Lok Sabha. The central government has approved a total of 4,106 projects till Thursday, the finance ministry said.  

 

Uttar Pradesh received INR 84.65 billion of the total loans released till Thursday, the highest compared with other states. The central government has approved 482 projects as part of this, the release said. Assam followed suit, with the state getting capex loans worth INR 50.42 billion and approval of 229 projects. 

 

On other hand, the Centre did not release any loan to Nagaland. Puducherry received the lowest amount among 31 states and Union territories. It got INR 1.81 billion as interest-free capex loan and got approval for 52 projects, the finance minister said.  End
