KOLKATA – Strong growth in domestic sales lifted Ashok Leyland Ltd.'s total vehicle sales for November 29% on year to 18,272 units. Total domestic sales in November were up 32% on year at 16,491 units.

 

After the announcement of the sales data for November, shares of the automaker rose to an intraday high of INR 161.40 on the National Stock Exchange. At 1217 IST, Ashok Leyland's shares were at INR 159.46 on the NSE, up 0.9%.

 

Overall sales of medium-to-heavy tonnage commercial vehicles in India and abroad rose 27% on year to 11,681 units. Of these, domestic sales accounted for 10,238 units, up 29% on year, the company said in a filing with bourses.

 

Sales of medium-to-heavy tonnage trucks in November grew 25% on year to 8,952 units, of which 8,576 units were sold domestically, registering 30% on-year growth. At the same time, bus sales grew 35% on year in November to 2,729 units. However, domestic bus sales grew at a slower pace, at 27% on year, to 1,662 units.

 

Despatches of light commercial vehicles, which formed around 36% of Ashok Leyland's overall automobile sales in November, grew 33% to 6,591 units. In India, sales of the company's light commercial vehicles grew at a higher pace of 37% to 6,253 units.

 

The company despatched 129,446 commercial vehicles to dealerships in India and abroad in Apr-Nov, up 9% on year. In India, the company sold 118,364 units in the financial year till November, up 7% from the year-ago period.

 

Of the total sales during Apr-Nov, total sales of commercial vehicles with medium-to-heavy tonnage grew 9% on year to 81,335 units and total sales of light commercial vehicles grew 9% on year to 48,111 units. For the September quarter, Ashok Leyland reported a net profit of INR 7.71 billion on revenue of INR 95.88 billion.  End
