--Cabinet OKs INR 98.58 bln for Pune metro extension 

 

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved a sum of INR 98.58 billion for the extension of Pune's metro rail network, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. The project, to be funded jointly by the Centre, the Maharashtra government, and external bilateral or multilateral funding agencies, is to be completed in five years.

 

The new metro network will span 32 km with 28 elevated stations across east, south, and west Pune, the government said in a press release. With this, the Pune metro network will expand beyond 100 km, according to the release.

 

"The project will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), which will carry out all civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems works," the release said. "Pre-construction activities such as topographical surveys and detailed design consultancy are already underway."  End
