NEW DELHI – Bajaj Auto Ltd. has priced the Bajaj Riki P40 electric rickshaw at INR 190,890 and the Bajaj Riki C40 cargo electric three-wheeler at INR 200,876, the company management said at an event here Wednesday. These are ex-showroom prices.
The auto major had forayed into the e-rickshaw segment with the Riki brand earlier this year through a test pilot in four cities–-Patna, Raipur, Guwahati, and Moradabad. Bajaj Auto is now targeting 25 cities for immediate launch before 100 more cities in the March quarter, the company management said.
The Riki P40 is available in two colours--blue and white--and the Riki C 40 offers an additional third colour option--steel grey. Bajaj Auto is open to adding new colour options for the two products based on demand, the company management said.
As per current estimates, the cost of a replacement or spare battery may range around INR 100,000. "We've seen that since we launched our first electric vehicle, the costs have been coming down every year. With volumes and with some time, this will keep coming down," the management said.
Similar to the strategy for GoGo, Bajaj Auto will set up a charging point for customers at their homes for Bajaj P4005, the first model under the P40 series. "Also we're working with our partner companies...to start setting up some type of charging centres," the management said.
According to the company management, the total cost of operation for Bajaj Riki P4005 will be 5-10% lower compared with other products available in the market. The Bajaj Riki P4005 is also an eligible model for subsidy under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement scheme.
In the fast-growing e-rickshaw market which is currently dominated by unorganised players, Bajaj Auto has attempted to solve issues surrounding safety, stability, and range, among others, with its latest products. The Bajaj Riki P4005 features an all steel skateboard chassis and hydraulic brakes. Both the vehicle and its battery offer a 3-year warranty.
The Bajaj Riki P4005 offers a range of 149 kilometres on full charge while the Bajaj Riki C4005 provides a range of 164 kms. Both the vehicles can be fast charged to full capacity under four and a half hours.
For the quarter ended September, the company had reported a net profit of INR 24.80 billion on a revenue of INR 149.22 billion. On Wednesday, its shares closed 1.3% higher at INR 9,164 on the National Stock Exchange. End
