NEW DELHI – The Asian Development Bank has approved a $400 million results-based loan to upgrade road connectivity in Maharashtra. The loan will be used to develop climate-resilient, low-carbon, and safe road networks, with a particular focus rural connectivity, the ADB said Tuesday.
"The Maharashtra Roads Connectivity for Inclusive Growth Program will improve all-weather road connectivity in 34 districts, particularly in the climate-vulnerable and economically lagging Marathwada and Vidarbha regions, linking rural communities to markets, logistics hubs, health care, education, and other essential services," the ADB said in a release. The programme will cover nearly 350 kilometres of state highways and 2,577 kilometres of rural roads, and benefit over 1.7 million people, including at least 80 villages and around 410 rural communities.
