--IMD: See very heavy rain over parts of Tamil Nadu Fri-Sun, Andhra on Sunday

MUMBAI – Very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu from Friday to Sunday, over Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Wednesday to Friday, and over parts of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said Monday. This is under the influence of a low pressure area which is likely to form over the Comorin area and adjoining areas of southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka around Tuesday, which is likely to become more marked thereafter, the weather department said.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely over most parts of south India till Friday and over Andaman and Nicobar Islands with gutsy wind speeds reaching 40-50 kilometre per hour during the next six days, the weather department said.

The well-marked low pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining south Andaman Sea is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours, the department said. This weather system is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the south Bay of Bengal in the subsequent 48 hours, it said.

A gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely over many parts of northwest India during the next three days and no significant change will be seen thereafter, the weather bureau said. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over central India during the next two days, after which a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius is likely during the subsequent three days. No significant change in the minimum temperature is likely over the rest of the country in the next five days, the weather department said.

Conditions of dense fog are likely to prevail during the night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of west Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Tuesday, it said.  End
