India Oct crude steel output up 6% on year, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose around 6% on year to 13.6 million tonnes in October, according to data from the World Steel Association. India accounted for more than 9% of the global steel output in October.
Global crude steel output in October fell nearly 6% on year to 143.3 million tonnes. India, the US, Turkey, and Iran reported a rise in output among the top 10 steel-producing countries while China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Germany, and Brazil reported a fall in production.
China, the world's largest steel producer, reported an output of 72.0 million tonnes last month, down over 12% on year. The country accounted for more than 50% of global production. In Japan, crude steel output fell 1% on year to 6.9 million tonnes in October. Production in Russia is estimated to have fallen over 6% to 5.3 million tonnes.
The US produced 7.0 million tonnes of steel in October, up over 9% on year. Steel output in Turkey was up over 3% at 3.2 million tonnes. Crude steel production in Germany declined 3% to 3.1 million tonnes in October. Crude steel production in Brazil fell around 3% on year to 3.0 million tonnes while production in Iran rose 12% on year to 3.3 million tonnes.
Global crude steel production in Jan-Oct fell over 2% on year to 1.5 billion tonnes while output in India jumped 10% to 136.0 million tonnes in the same period. End
