IMD sees depression over southeast Bay of Bengal intensifying around Monday

MUMBAI – A low-pressure area is expected to form over the south Andaman Sea Saturday and develop into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal around Monday. It is then likely to move west-northwestward and further intensify over the southwest Bay of Bengal in the subsequent 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department said Friday.
Under the influence of these conditions, very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Sunday and Monday. Light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, is expected till Monday, the weather department said. Similar weather is also expected over Kerala till Sunday.
Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Andhra Pradesh till Monday with winds reaching 40-50 kmph speed. Gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Sunday and Monday while winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday.
Cold wave conditions are expected over parts of western Madhya Pradesh Saturday and Sunday. Shallow to moderate fog is likely over northeast India during the week. A gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2-4 degree Celsius is expected over northwest India during the week and a gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2-3 degree Celsius is likely over west and central India in the next three days, the weather agency said. Not much change in minimum temperature is likely over the rest of the country. End
