IMD sees Bay of Bengal low pressure area bring very heavy rain in south India

MUMBAI – A low pressure area, which is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal around Saturday and intensify into a depression over central parts of southern Bay of Bengal around Monday, is expected to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over the southern region of the country till Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department.

 

The weather bureau expects light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at many places and heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu from Friday to Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are also expected over Kerala from Friday to Sunday and over coastal Andhra Pradesh Wednesday. Very heavy rainfall is also expected over parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Friday and Saturday, the weather bureau said.

 

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala between Friday and Monday and over coastal Andhra Pradesh from Saturday to Monday. The weather department expects gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 km per hour Thursday and Monday and 50-60 km per hour from Friday to Sunday over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

 

Cold wave conditions are seen over parts of western Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday. The bureau expects gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over central India during next four days and no large change thereafter. Gradual rise in minimum temperature of 2-4 degree Celsius is likely over western India for next five days, it said.  End
