India receives 2.0 mm of rainfall in week to Wed, 71% below normal, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.0 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 71% below the normal of 6.9 millimetres for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. From Oct. 1–Nov. 19, the country received 123.6 millimetres rainfall, 27% above the normal of 97.0 millimetres, the data showed. 

 

All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, according to the data. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 98% below normal at 0.1 millimetres, according to the data. 

 

Both northwest and central India received 100% below normal rainfall of 0.0 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday from the normal of 2.7 millimetres and 3.5 millimetres, respectively. South India received 52% below-normal rainfall at 10.2 millimetres, according to the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, there was no rainfall in 26 subdivisions during the week. Four subdivisions received "deficient" rainfall, five subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall and one received "excess" showers, according to IMD.  End
