NEW DELHI - The government Wednesday appointed Sandip Pradhan as a whole-time member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India for a period of three years. Pradhan is currently the director general of income tax (investigation) at Pune, according to a gazette notification by the finance ministry.
Pradhan's appointment will be for a "period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the notification said.
The positions of two of the whole-time members fell vacant after the terms of Ananth Narayan G and Ashwani Bhatia ended, and they were not granted an extension by the government. Ashwani Bhatia's term had ended on May 31 and Ananth Narayan's term ended on Oct. 9.
SEBI is expected to issue a formal statement on the day Pradhan takes charge as a whole-time member. End
