Income-tax tribunal quashes INR 594 mln of INR 1.1-bln demand against Dabur

MUMBAI – Dabur India Ltd. Wednesday said the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal has quashed a tax demand of INR 593.7 million from a total demand of INR 1.10 billion raised by the assistant commissioner of income tax, circle 7, Delhi, in April. Accordingly, the demand is now reduced to INR 509.6 million. The company has already filed an appeal with the commissioner of income tax (appeals) against the demand, it said in an exchange filing.
The company does not expect any financial implications due to the tax demand. The implication, if any, will be limited to the extent of the final tax liability that may be ascertained by the appellate authorities, Dabur India added.
The tax demand of INR 1.10 billion was raised after reassessment proceedings under Section 263 of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The company is said to have wrongly claimed tax deduction on in-house research and development and under Section 14A of the Act.
For the September quarter, Dabur India reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.53 billion on a revenue of INR 31.91 billion. Wednesday, the stock closed around 1% lower at INR 517.55 on the National Stock Exchange. End
