MUMBAI – A low pressure area, which is likely to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal around Saturday, is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central parts of south Bay of Bengal around Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. Thereafter, it is very likely to continue moving in the same direction and intensifying further in the subsequent 48 hours, the weather department said.

Currently, a low pressure area and associated cyclonic circulation lies over the Comorin area, the neighbouring Lakshwadeep Islands, and the Maldives area. Another cyclonic circulation lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal. These weather systems are likely to cause light to moderate rainfall with a few spells of heavy showers over most parts of south India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected over the same regions during the given duration, the department said.

Cold wave conditions are seen over parts of central Maharashtra, east Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana on Thursday, the weather department said. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to persist in parts of west Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, while cold wave conditions are seen in parts of the same region on Friday, the department said.

No significant changes in minimum temperatures are seen over the plains of northwest India in the next six to seven days, while minimum temperatures are expected to rise in the rest of the country during this period, the weather department said.

In central India, minimum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2–4 degrees Celsius in the next five days, the department said. Minimum temperatures are expected to slowly rise by 2–4 degrees Celsius in the next five days in Maharashtra, and in the next four days in Gujarat, it said. In east India, minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, with no significant change seen thereafter, it said.  End
