SIAM says western India saw highest sales of CV, PV, 2-wheelers in Q2

MUMBAI – Western states in India saw the highest sales of passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial vehicles during the September quarter and the southern zone saw the highest three-wheelers sales, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. Of the total passenger vehicles sales of 1.04 million units in the quarter, sales in the western regions were 344,000 units.
Maharashtra saw the highest passenger vehicle sales in India, accounting for nearly 13% of the total volume. The second top state was Uttar Pradesh which constituted nearly 10% of the total passenger vehicle sales, followed by Gujarat with nearly 9%, and Karnataka more than 7%, and Kerala accounting for almost 7% of total sales in the segment.
The total two-wheeler sales in the quarter was 5.56 million units, out of which 1.93 million were sold in western parts of India. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest sales of two-wheelers at 693,000 units, accounting for almost 13% of total sales under this category. Maharashtra contributed a little over 11% and Gujarat accounted for 8%. Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan recorded sales of around 7?ch out of the total two-wheeler sales volume.
The western states also saw the highest sales of commercial vehicles at 92,000 units, with Maharashtra recording 16% of the total sales of 37,000 units and Gujarat accounting for over 9%. Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu contributed nearly 8?ch, and Karnataka contributed 7% of the sales in this category, as per the SIAM data.
The southern region marked the highest three-wheeler sales volume in the September quarter, with Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka together accounting for almost 40% of the total sales in this segment. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest three-wheeler sales with 28,000 units or 12% of the total. Around 229,000 three-wheelers were sold in the country during the reporting quarter. End
