NEW DELHI – The government has approved 17 new applicants under the production-linked incentive scheme for the textile sector, according to a release Tuesday. "The newly approved applicants have committed a total investment of INR 23.74 billion. The proposed projects are expected to achieve projected sales of over INR 128.93 billion and generate employment for about 22,646 persons in the coming years," the government said.

The production-linked incentive scheme for textiles was notified on Sept. 24, 2021, with an outlay of INR 106.83 billion to promote the production of man-made fibre apparel and fabrics, and products of technical textiles. "The Scheme aims to enable the textile industry to achieve the necessary size and scale, become globally competitive, and create substantial employment opportunities. Under the first two rounds of selections, a total of 74 applicants have been approved under the scheme," the release said.

Recently, the government had notified major amendments to the scheme to further enhance industry participation. To encourage wider participation from the industry, the Ministry of Textiles has opened the production-linked incentive scheme application portal until Dec. 31, 2025. To address industry challenges and improve the ease of doing business, applicants were allowed to set up project units within existing companies. The government had also reduced the minimum investment requirement for the Part-1 category to INR 1.5 billion from INR 3.0 billion, which took effect on Aug. 1, 2025, for all new applicants. Similarly, the minimum investment requirement for the Part-2 category has been cut to INR 500 million from INR 1.0 billion.  End
