AHMEDABAD – Tata Power Co. Ltd.'s subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. has commissioned a 300 megawatt domestic content requirement-compliant solar power project for NHPC Ltd. as an engineering, procurement, and commissioning contractor in Bikaner, Rajasthan, Tata Power said in a filing with the stock exchanges Monday.
The government has mandated a domestic content requirement for solar power projects under which certain components such as solar cells and modules have to be manufactured in India. The project qualifies for specific government schemes only if it is compliant on these parameters. The requirement aims to boost local manufacturing, reduce import dependence, and support domestic industry growth.
NHPC had contracted the solar power project to Tata Power's arm and it was executed over two-and-a-half years. Other than NHPC's 300 MW solar project, Tata Power's arm is setting up domestic content requirement-compliant cells and modules for SJVN Ltd.'s 1 gigawatt project in Rajasthan and NLC India Ltd.'s 300 MW project in the same state. Both projects are "poised for commissioning", the company said in its filing.
Till date, Tata Power Renewable Energy has commissioned third-party projects of over 4.9 GW, including over 980 MW in the current financial year. Tata Power's consolidated net profit and revenue for the September quarter fell nearly 1% on year to INR 9.19 billion and INR 155.45 billion, respectively. Monday, shares of Tata Power ended 1.1% higher at INR 392.75 on the National Stock Exchange. Shares of NHPC ended at INR 81.25 on NSE, up 1.2% from Friday. End
