MUMBAI – India's gross exports of gems and jewellery fell nearly 31% on year to $2.17 billion in October and gross imports were down more than 19% on year to $1.28 billion, according to data from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council. The country's gross gems and jewellery exports during Apr-Oct declined around 3% to $16.26 billion while gross imports rose 3.2% to $11.87 billion.

 

Overall exports of cut and polished diamonds fell 27% on year to $1.03 billion in October and imports fell around 36% on year to $132.95 million. In the Apr-Oct period, exports and imports of cut polished diamonds fell nearly 13% and over 16% on year to $7.28 billion and $703.28 million, respectively. The country's imports of rough diamonds fell 0.2% on year to $6.45 billion during Apr-Oct. Exports of polished lab-grown diamonds fell around 35% on year to $94.37 million in October.

 

India exported $850.15 million worth of gold jewellery in October, down more than 28% from last year. Exports of gold jewellery in Apr-Oct rose nearly 12% to $6.65 billion. Silver jewellery exports in Apr-Oct rose 10% on year to $717.78 million. Exports of platinum jewellery during the same period rose over 27% on year to $126.47 million, according to the council.  End
