IMD sees heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu Sun, Mon

MUMBAI – Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday and Monday, and over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Monday, the India Meteorological Department said. This weather condition is due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast in the early hours of Saturday, the weather department said.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–50 kilometre per hour are likely over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala from Sunday to Wednesday, and over parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Wednesday, the weather department said.
Cold wave conditions are likely to continue over some pockets of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh till Monday, over some pockets of Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, and Jharkhand till Sunday, the weather department said. Similar weather conditions are also likely over Marathawada and central Maharashtra till Monday, the department said.
Shallow to moderate fog conditions are likely over northeast India during the next three days. No major change in minimum temperature is likely over east India during the next 48 hours and a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius is expected thereafter. No significant change in minimum temperature is likely over the remaining parts of the country during the next seven days, the department said. End
