FCI wheat stocks down 4% month on month as of Nov 1, rice stocks down 6%

MUMBAI – Wheat stocks with Food Corp. of India as of Nov. 1 fell 4% month on month to 30.7 million tonnes, declining for the fifth consecutive month since Jul. 1. However, the wheat stocks were up 38% on year. Typically, wheat stocks fall June onwards as it marks the end of procurement and the government begins distributing the staple grain under the public distribution system.
The current wheat stocks are well above the buffer norm of 20.5 million tonnes, which includes an operational stock of 17.5 million tonnes and a strategic reserve of 3 million tonnes.
Rice stocks with Food Corp. as of Nov. 1 were nearly 6% lower on month at 33.6 million tonnes. The current rice stock is up over 13% on year and at a two-decade high for the beginning of November. It is also above the buffer norm of 10.25 million tonnes, comprising operational stock of 8.25 million tonnes and strategic reserve of 2 million tonnes.
Total food grain stocks with Food Corp. as of Nov. 1 were 64.3 million tonnes, up from 51.9 million tonnes a year ago. As of Oct. 1, food grain stocks with Food Corp. were at 67.6 million tonnes, according to the data. End
