MUMBAI – The bottom line of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. fell year-on-year for the third consecutive quarter in the September quarter, while the revenue rose marginally on year. The fall in net profit is mainly due to a high base because of a one-time gain in the year-ago quarter.
The company's consolidated net profit was down nearly 6% on year at INR 8.27 billion, but higher than analysts' estimate of INR 7.47 billion. In the year-ago quarter, the company's net profit included a one-time fair valuation gain of INR 1.33 billion, which took the total profit to INR 8.80 billion.
Excluding the one-time gain, the company's profit for the September quarter of the previous year would be INR 7.47 billion. Effectively, the company's net profit for Jul-Sept would show a rise of nearly 11% on year.
The company also reported a one-time tax gain of INR 290 million in the quarter gone by, which would take the total net profit for the quarter to INR 8.56 billion.
Consequently, the company's net profit would show a rise of 15% on year to INR 8.56 billion from the normalised net profit of INR 7.47 billion in the year-ago period. Samvardhana's consolidated net revenue for Jul-Sept rose over 8% on year to INR 301.73 billion. Sequentially, the company's net revenue was slightly down from INR 302.12 billion.
The growth in net profit was supported by improved business performance and reduction in finance costs, according to the company's presentation. "Our performance demonstrates the resilience and adaptability of our global business teams, whose collaborative spirit has been essential in navigating a dynamic business environment. The transformative measures we have implemented are expected to maintain momentum and accelerate further in H2FY26," Vivek Chaand Sehgal, chairman of Motherson group, said in a note.
The company's total expenses rose nearly 8% on year to INR 291.67 billion. The company's cost of materials consumed rose nearly 10% on year to INR 163.39 billion while employee benefit expenses were up 8% on year at INR 74.40 billion. The depreciation and amortisation expense was around 10% higher on year at INR 12.18 billion.
Samvardhana Motherson's consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation or EBITDA was INR 27.19 billion, up over 10% from INR 24.63 billion year ago. The company's EBITDA in the year-ago quarter, including the one-time fair valuation gain of INR 1.78 billion on account of acquisition of controlling interest in one of the joint ventures, was INR 26.41 billion, the release said.
The company's consolidated EBITDA margin for the quarter was 9.0%, slightly up from 8.9% in the year-ago quarter. Samvardhana Motherson's capital expenditure during the September quarter was INR 14.45 billion, up from INR 9.46 billion in the year-ago period. "Capex (is) in alignment with the growth priorities and annual guidance," the release said. The company's capital expenditure is seen accelerating in Oct-Mar and it sees 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) capital expenditure at INR 60 billion.
Samvardhana's September quarter revenue from modules and polymer products sales was INR 153.7 billion, up 5% on year. Its revenue from the wiring harness segment was INR 85.50 billion, up from INR 81.11 billion. Revenue from the vision system sales was INR 50.84 billion, up from INR 48.07 billion in the year-ago quarter.
The company's Apr-Sept consolidated net profit was INR 13.39 billion, down nearly 29% on year. The consolidated revenue for the period was INR 603.85 billion, up around 7% on year. On the National Stock Exchange, shares of Samvardhana Motherson closed 3% higher at INR 109.13 on Thursday. End
