IRCTC Q2 net profit rises 11% on year, revenue up 8%

MUMBAI – Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp. Ltd. reported a low double-digit on-year rise in its net profit for the September quarter alongside a high single-digit growth in its revenue. The company's year-on-year top line and bottom line growth in Jul-Sept was better than the trailing quarter.

 

The company's net profit for the September quarter rose 11% on year to INR 3.42 billion. The bottom line rose over 3% from the June quarter. The company's net profit was almost in line with broking firm Prabhudas Lilladher Pvt. Ltd.'s estimate of INR 3.44 billion.

 

The company's revenue rose nearly 8% on year but declined over 1% sequentially to INR 11.46 billion. It missed Prabhudas Lilladher's revenue estimate of INR 11.64 billion by a small margin.  

 

The company's total expenses rose over 7% on year but fell nearly 3% sequentially to INR 7.58 billion in the September quarter. The company's catering expenses grew over 12% on year to INR 3.89 billion. Its tourism expenses grew over 14% on year in Jul-Sept to INR 1.20 billion.   

 

Revenue from the company's catering business, which contributed over 45% to its overall revenue, grew nearly 8% on year to INR 5.20 billion in the September quarter. The company's internet ticketing business rose 4% on year to INR 3.86 billion in Jul-Sept and contributed nearly 34% to the company's total revenue.

 

The public sector company's tourism business grew over 20% on year to INR 1.50 billion in the reporting quarter. The revenue from Rail Neer segment, which sells packaged water, rose a little over 4% on year to INR 940.64 million.  

 

For Apr-Sept, the company's profit after tax from continuing operations rose over 9% on year to INR 6.72 billion and its revenue for the period rose nearly 6% on year to INR 23.06 billion. The company announced an interim dividend of INR 5 per share, each of INR 2 face value. Record date for the same is Nov. 21.

 

On Wednesday, shares of the company ended 0.7% higher at INR 715.85 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its earnings after market hours.  End
