India receives 1.7 mm of rainfall in week to Wed, 78% below normal, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 1.7 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 78% below the normal of 7.7 millimetres for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. From Oct. 1–Nov. 12, the country received 121.6 millimetres of rainfall, 35% above the normal of 90.1 millimetres, the data showed.
All four homogeneous regions of the country received below-normal rainfall in the week ending Wednesday, according to the data. In east and northeast India, rainfall was 65% below normal at 2.6 millimetres, according to the data. South India received 71% below-normal rainfall at 6.6 millimetres. Both northwest and central India received 99% below normal rainfall of 0.0 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, there was no rainfall in 16, while it was "large deficient" in 16 and "deficient" in four. End
