MUMBAI – Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. late Tuesday reported a substanial year-on-year decline in its net profit for the September quarter despite a slight increase in its revenue for the period. The company's bottom line fell on year for the sixth straight quarter in Jul-Sept. The company's other income fell sharply in the reporting quarter, leading to a marginal decline in its total income.
The company's net profit for the September quarter fell over 35% on year but rose a little over 53% sequentially to INR 1.96 billion. It missed IDBI Capital Market Services Ltd.'s bottom line estimate of INR 3.68 billion by a huge margin.
The public sector company's revenue rose over 1% on year and nearly 26% sequentially to INR 49.35 billion in the reporting quarter, more than IDBI Capital's estimate of INR 48.97 billlion. The company's other income fell over 27% on year to INR 2.03 billion for the reporting quarter. The fall in other income of the company led to a marginal year-on-year fall in its total income to INR 51.38 billion in Jul-Sept.
The total expenses of the company rose nearly 2% on year and almost 22% sequentially to INR 48.32 billion in the reporting quarter. The company's expenses on operations grew in line with total expenses at 2% on year to INR 46.11 billion in the September quarter.
For Apr-Sept, the company reported a net profit of INR 3.24 billion, down nearly 38% on year. Its revenue declined nearly 1% on year to INR 88.60 billion in the same period.
Tuesday, shares of Rail Vikas Nigam ended 0.6% higher at INR 317.75 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its September quarter earnings after market hours. End
