NEW DELHI – The deadly car blast in Delhi Monday, which has claimed 10 lives so far, shows that terrorism is rearing its head again, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said Tuesday. While the government is yet to declare the explosion a terrorist attack, the Delhi Police has booked the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Security forces investigate and prosecute terrorist acts and activities threatening the sovereignty and integrity of the country under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The blast near the Red Fort metro station shows there is a need to be "very conscious about the safety and security of our environment", Goyal said. "We have got to be very careful about terrorism rearing its head again," he said.

"There are these last-ditch efforts that these terrorists do to try and show their relevance," the minister said at the Annual Health Summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry. "We as citizens are duty-bound to really give a very, very responsible yet firm answer to such characters."

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the conspirators behind the attack will not be spared. "Our agencies will get to the very bottom of this conspiracy," Modi said. "All those responsible will be brought to justice." Several cities, including Delhi and Mumbai, have been put on high alert after the blast.  End
