NEW DELHI – Gujarat Gas Ltd.'s net profit declined in the September quarter due to muted revenue growth and higher expenses. This is despite an uptick in sales volume. The company's bottom line fell 8.4% on year to INR 2.81 billion, slightly below the street estimate of INR 2.85 billion. Sequentially, the net profit fell 14%.

Revenue from operations for the quarter rose 0.8% on year to INR 39.79 billion, largely in line with the analysts' expectation of INR 37.33 billion. The top line fell 2.1% from the trailing quarter. The company's total income rose 1.6% on year to INR 40.52 billion, amid a sharp 90% on year rise in other income to INR 731 million. Meanwhile, total expenses rose 3% on year to INR 36.74 billion due to higher excise and other expenses.

The company achieved a 13% on-year growth in compressed natural gas sales volume to 3.32 million standard cubic metre per day in the September quarter. For domestic piped natural gas, sales volume rose 10% on year, and commercial piped natural gas rose 7% on year. "The CNG category continues to witness strong momentum in terms of volume, registering a 13% rise YoY, backed by a network of 834 CNG Stations. During the quarter, the company added 4 CNG stations," the company said in a release.

During the September quarter, the company added over 42,400 new domestic customers and provided natural gas to more than 2.34 million households, according to the release. For the six months ended September, the company's net profit fell 4.5% to INR 6.08 billion, while revenue fell 6.1% to INR 80.44 billion.
