NEW DELHI – The first-year premium income of life insurance companies in India rose 12.1% on year to INR 340.07 billion in October, data released by the Life Insurance Council Monday showed. In September, life insurance companies' premium income was INR 402.07 billion.
Premium income for the first seven months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) was INR 2.377 trillion, up 8.3% from the previous year. State-owned LIC's first-year premiums rose 12.5% on year to INR 192.74 billion in October, while private life insurers' premiums were up 11.5% at INR 147.33 billion.
LIC's market share decreased in October from a month ago but rose slightly from a year ago. Its market share was 56.7% in October, against 57.1% in September and 56.4% in October last year.
Among private insurers, SBI Life Insurance Co.'s first-year premium income surged 20.3% on year to INR 31.85 billion in October and that of HDFC Life Insurance Co. rose just 1.1% to INR 28.29 billion. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Co. reported a 6.5% rise in premium income to INR 17.73 billion in October.
