MUMBAI – Cummins India Ltd. reported robust earnings for the September quarter with its bottom line growth being the highest in six quarters and the top line growth being the highest in four quarters. In absolute terms, the company's net profit and revenue for Jul-Sept were the highest in 44 quarters. 

 

The net profit of the diesel and natural gas engine and generator sets manufacturer rose 41.5% on year to INR 6.38 billion in Jul-Sept, beating analysts' estimate of INR 5.45 billion. Sequentially, the company posted an 8% increase in its net profit. The company's revenue from operations rose more than 27% on year and over 9% from the trailing quarter to INR 31.70 billion in the September quarter. Analysts had expected the company to have earned a revenue of INR 28.72 billion in Jul-Sept.

 

The company's revenue was driven by an on-year growth in both its engine business and lubes business during the reporting quarter. Revenue from the company's engines business rose around 27% on year to INR 31.22 billion in the September quarter, compared with INR 24.65 billion a year ago. The company's lubes business revenue grew almost 31% from the year-ago quarter to INR 7.11 billion in the reporting quarter.

 

Cummins India's total expenses grew nearly 23% on year to INR 25.27 billion in Jul-Sept. The increase in overall cost was largely driven by a more than 16% rise in the cost of materials consumed and an around 21% on-year rise in other expenses. Cummins India's cost of materials consumed was INR 18.04 billion and other expenses were INR 2.65 billion during the reporting quarter.

 

The cost of raw material accounted for over 71% of the company's total expenses for the reporting quarter. Expenses towards employees and purchases of stock-in-trade rose 3% and 32% on year to INR 1.99 billion and INR 1.97 billion, respectively.   
 

For the half year ended September, the company's net profit rose 41% on year to INR 12.27 billion and its revenue for the period grew 27% on year to INR 60.77 billion. Its total expenses for the six-month period rose 23% on year to INR 48.61 billion. 

 

The company reported its earnings post market hours. On Thursday, shares of the company closed flat at INR 4,316.10 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
