MUMBAI - Bajaj Auto Ltd. moved another step closer to acquiring the KTM business as it issued a call exercise notice to Pierer Industrie AG to buy 24,000 shares in Pierer Bajaj AG for INR 2.48 billion, the company said in an exchange filing. Bajaj Auto, through its Dutch arm Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV, holds 49.9% in Pierer Bajaj AG, with the rest being held by Pierer Industrie AG.

Bajaj Auto intends to purchase all 50,100 shares held by Pierer Industrie in Pierer Bajaj. "We hereby inform that BAIH has issued a subsequent Notice of Call Exercise to PIAG in respect of 24,000 shares of PBAG for cash consideration of Euro 24.31 million," the Pune-based automaker said.

Acquiring Pierer Bajaj will give the Rajiv Bajaj-led company full control over the Austrian automotive company KTM AG. Pierer Bajaj holds around 75% in Pierer Mobility, which is the holding company of KTM. "Accordingly, PBAG shall become the wholly owned subsidiary of BAIH and in turn a step-down subsidiary of the Company," Bajaj Auto said.

For the quarter ended Jun. 30, Bajaj Auto had reported a net profit of INR 20.96 billion on a revenue of INR 125.84 billion. Thursday, shares of the company closed slightly lower at INR 8,720.50 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
