--Britannia appoints Rakshit Hargave as CEO for 5 years from Dec 15

KOLKATA – Britannia Industries Ltd. Wednesday said Rakshit Hargave will join the company as chief executive officer from Dec. 15 for a period of five years. Hargave, who currently heads Aditya Birla Group company Birla Opus as its chief executive officer, has tendered his resignation and will quit the paints company on Dec. 5.

Considered a veteran in the consumer industry with experience both in India and outside, Hargave joined Birla Opus in November 2021 and played a significant role at a time when the Aditya Birla Group company was foraying into the decorative paints industry. He helped Birla Opus scale up operations rapidly to become a challenger to industry giants like Asian Paints Ltd. and Berger Paints India Ltd.

In a disclosure to bourses, Grasim Industries Ltd. – which houses Birla Opus paints, said Hargave built a high-performing team during his stint at the company, established six integrated manufacturing facilities, and scaled up distribution and supply chain networks nationwide. These would form a strong foundation for Birla Opus as the company grows its paints brand and business ahead, the company said.

Before starting his stint at Birla Opus, Hargave headed operations of the German skincare company Beiersdorf - makers of Nivea – in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and also in Australia and New Zealand. Hargave had also headed African operations and was also the managing director of Nivea in India, Britannia said in a disclosure to the bourses confirming Hargave's appointment in Britannia.

Prior to Beiersdorf, he worked with Hindustan Unilever as sales and marketing director. Hargave also worked with Jubilant Foodworks Ltd. wherein he successfully launched the iconic Domino's Pizza 30 minutes guarantee delivery model.

Hargave started his career with Tata Motors after completing his engineering studies and joined Nestle India Ltd. thereafter. He holds a masters degree in business administration from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, and a degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi.

On Tuesday, shares of Britannia closed 1.2% higher at INR 5,892.50 and those of Grasim ended 0.6% lower at INR 2,882.00 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
