India's power generation falls 10.8% to 119.57 bln kWh in Oct

KOLKATA – India's electricity generation fell sharply by 10.83% on year and by 7.80% on month to 119.57 billion kilowatt hour in October, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In October 2024, total power generation from all sources stood at 134.08 billion kilowatt hour. In September, it was 129.69 billion kilowatt hour.
Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.
Thermal power generation in October fell sharply by 14.39% on year to 97.61 billion kilowatt-hour and nuclear power generation was nearly flat on year at 4.77 billion kilowatt hour. Hydropower generation, however, increased by 13.75% to 16.44 billion kilowatt-hour.
Total electricity generated in the Apr-Oct period was 915.24 billion kilowatt hour, down 3.77% on year. India has set a total electricity generation target of 1.73 trillion kilowatt hour for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar).
